RIMS FOR TESLA

Swap the standard wheels and your Tesla instantly feels like a different car. Tesla rims change stance, proportions and attitude; they can make paint colours pop, show off big brakes, or deliver a subtle OEM+ look that reads “factory special”. Whether you drive a Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X, the right rim choice blends style with real-world gains in efficiency, grip and ride quality. Below you’ll find a practical guide to styles, fitment, performance and care—then scroll to the gallery to see multiple Teslas on different rims.

Why rims matter

Great wheels reframe the whole silhouette: a slight diameter change alters stance, a slimmer spoke pattern lightens the profile, darker finishes visually lower the car. On performance builds, open designs showcase calipers and aid brake cooling; on long-distance commuters, aero-leaning rims can trim turbulence and help range. In every case, Tesla rims are the most visible upgrade you can make.

Style directions to consider

  • OEM+ – factory design language with fresher finishes (satin black, hyper silver, gunmetal).

  • Performance – multi-spoke and Y-spoke patterns that echo track heritage, often with machined faces.

  • Minimal/Aero – smooth faces and tight spoke gaps that look modern and can help efficiency.

  • Contrast builds – colour pops (bronze, graphite) against white, blue or red paint; stealth black on greys.

  • Utility/All-season – tough coatings and simpler spoke designs that are easy to keep clean in winter.

Fitment fundamentals

Correct fitment is non-negotiable. You want a hub-centric setup (Tesla-specific hub bores or supplied hub-centric rings), brake-caliper clearance, and offsets that keep scrub radius close to stock so steering feel and range remain predictable.

  • Diameter & width: Common choices are 18–21″ for Model 3/Y and 19–22″ for S/X. Wider rims give more grip and visual muscle; narrower/light sets favour comfort and efficiency.

  • Offset (ET): The sweet spot tucks the rim neatly in the arch without rubbing on lock or compression.

  • Square vs staggered: Square (same all round) allows easy tyre rotation and balanced handling; staggered (wider rear) adds rear traction and a more aggressive stance, but limits rotation on AWD cars.

Performance, range & comfort

Rims affect unsprung mass and aero. Lighter, flow-formed or forged wheels sharpen response and can reduce energy consumption; heavily styled cast wheels may add weight. Tyres contribute more to Wh/mi than most realise—EV-rated compounds with low rolling resistance and correct load index preserve range. Keep pressures to spec (check the door jamb) and consider seasonal compounds for predictable grip year-round.

Brake clearance & TPMS

Performance calipers need space; always check the template if you run large brakes. For TPMS, later Teslas use Bluetooth Low Energy sensors, older cars use RF—match sensors to the car’s system and you’ll pair in minutes. Quality Tesla rims and complete wheel packages usually include compatible TPMS and centre caps.

Tyres that make sense on a Tesla

Choose EV-rated, XL-load tyres with reinforced sidewalls. For daily motorway use: low rolling resistance, good wet grip, low noise. For spirited B-roads: a performance compound with a sensible efficiency trade-off. Winter sets (or at least all-season) are a smart choice in colder regions—more safety, less wheelspin, better braking.

Care, protection & longevity

  • Use pH-neutral cleaners; avoid strong acids/alkalis that attack clearcoat.

  • Ceramic-coat rims for easier brake-dust clean-up.

  • Fit locking nuts and consider rim-edge protectors.

  • After installation, re-torque wheel nuts after 50–100 km and follow the torque spec in your owner’s manual.

  • A strip of PPF behind the front wheels keeps rear doors/arches free from stone rash on wider setups.

Choosing your size: a quick decision tree

  • Max range / comfort: smaller diameter, lighter rims, aero-friendly design, efficiency tyres.

  • Balanced daily: mid-size (e.g., +1″ over stock), flow-formed for weight savings, OE-style offsets.

  • Performance stance: larger diameter/wider rear, open spokes for brake cooling, performance compound tyres (accept a minor range hit).

Installation & support

We supply Tesla rims as wheels-only or complete, mounted and balanced with TPMS and valves—ready to bolt on. If you’d like pro fitting, alignment or brake-caliper painting to match your new look, we can point you to trusted partners. Prefer DIY? Many packages include fitting guides and torque notes.
